about

Juraj KuΕ‘nierik used to say: π‘ͺ𝒖𝒍𝒕 𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒔 π’˜π’Šπ’•π’‰ 𝒂 π’“π’†π’π’‚π’•π’Šπ’—π’†π’π’š π’ˆπ’“π’†π’‚π’• π’Žπ’†π’‚π’π’Šπ’π’ˆ 𝒕𝒐 𝒂 π’“π’†π’π’‚π’•π’Šπ’—π’†π’π’š π’”π’Žπ’‚π’π’ π’π’–π’Žπ’ƒπ’†π’“ 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆. The Bridgeheads were a cult band.

The Bridgeheads was a continuation of the band The Bridge, with over the 9 years of activity, changing their line-up but always keeping its 3 core founding members (brothers): Tomas dAsK, Jozef Lemee, and Michal Wisp. The brothers and the band were born in the Slovak town of Bardejov and since their beginnings, created indie // alternative rock that was extremely well-written, thought-out, produced, and executed. Within a few years, the band earned a cult following among many teenagers and young adults, who were equally proud and surprised that this kind of music was created in Slovakia.

In 2005, The Bridge released their first LP Citizen Bridge, an opus magnum already, featuring 32 songs and clocking over 90 minutes. They played numerous shows around Central Europe, small and big, and soon became a band that π’Žπ’†π’‚π’π’• π’”π’π’Žπ’†π’•π’‰π’Šπ’π’ˆ. In 2006 the band moved to London and renamed itself The Bridgeheads. Their following was perhaps slightly disappointed, but above all proud of this bold move. Releasing their EP Things, perhaps their most β€œwestern-sounding” alternative rock production, the band soon realised that this was not their path. They yearned to create something more of their own, substantial.

The Bridgeheads spent the next 3 years reinventing their sound and music, writing and recording their next, and, regrettably, last record, Foreigners – an album of immense depth and magnitude. Shooting videos for all the album’s songs, creating artworks, they acknowledged that their music and its universe need to be perceived in full context and as a whole.

Tragically, shortly after its release and the band was supposed to play a tour in its support, Tomas dAsk died in a woeful accident. Following this, Jozef and Michal could not see a future for The Bridgeheads, as Tomas meant so much for the band – musically, artistically; and as their brother, personally.

Weltschmerzen is extremely proud to present Foreigners for the first time ever on vinyl, a plan that always used to be. The music has been there for over 10 years and will live forever. We are honoured we can be a part of this album’s story and present it, for the first time, in the physical form including a booklet of Tomas’s artworks, to the people for whom The Bridgeheads always meant so much. They still do.
